LifeSet panelist for Impact Hour

Impact Hour 2025 at The Parthenon

Apr 3, 2025 | Blog, LifeSet

Five young adults who aged out of foster care at 18 years old vulnerably shared their experience transitioning to adulthood after spending most of their childhood in state custody.

The inaugural event provided an opportunity for 150 donors and community members to learn more about these young adults’ life goals, the barriers they faced along the way, and LifeSet’s role in earning their trust and supporting their success.

“I was in foster care for most of my childhood, and I never really trusted anybody the way I trusted my LifeSet specialist,” said Jahlin, LifeSet Participant. “They helped me get to college and graduate high school, which I never thought I would do.”

LifeSet provides comprehensive services and support to young adults in and aging out of child welfare custody by helping them build healthy relationships; obtain safe housing, education and employment; prioritize mental and physical health; and provide safety planning and crisis intervention.

“We’re also people; we’re not just victims of our circumstances or hardships,” said Tristan Slough, panel moderator and former LifeSet participant and LifeSet Scholar. “Programs like LifeSet help us realize how good we can be and give us the means to realize our potential.”

The second panel of the evening featured LifeSet participant Caitlan and her foster parent, Travis. They highlighted the crucial role of a strong support system in managing complex logistics such as housing, transportation and financial assistance.

Thanks to everyone who attended and took the time to learn more about LifeSet and kick off our ‘Ready, LifeSet, Go!’ fundraising campaign, which runs online through June 2025.

Special thanks to our event sponsors!
