Holiday Heroes brings a brighter season to more than 500 youth and families in Oregon
The Youth Villages Holiday Heroes campaign has helped children and families for nearly 13 years in Oregon by bringing together corporate and community volunteers to fulfill wish lists for those in the nonprofit’s community-based programs.
This year, more than 500 wish lists were fulfilled thanks to $31,000 in cash donations and hundreds of donated gifts. Fifteen volunteers shopped for wish lists at local stores using donor funds, and 100 volunteers wrapped2,000 presents at the Holiday Cheers & Volunteers event.
“We were honored to partner with Youth Villages as the presenting sponsor for its Holiday Cheers & Volunteers event,” said Carmen Cooper, CEO of Northwest States, UnitedHealthcare. “Our team joined the gift-wrapping festivities and helped make the season brighter for local youth.”

Jonathan Whitmore, assistant director of development at Youth Villages says the stories — like those of Youth Villages Scholars DJ and Natalie — tell the amazing support from the Pacific Northwest community, highlighting the power of giving back during this special time of the year.
DJ, a senior at Portland State University, didn’t request any gifts for himself, a choice staff said reflects his humble nature. His specialist, however, knew he wanted to learn music and asked for a used guitar on DJ’s behalf. After opening the gift at their party, DJ spent the hour learning basic chords from a friend.
Natalie, also enrolled at Portland State, requested a specific Lego set inspired by her love for her cat. She plans to complete the Lego set with her younger sister, who lives with her. Natalie’s specialist said the gift will give the sisters time to connect during the holiday season.
Our community stepped up in a huge way this year. Hundreds of young people and families across Oregon have a brighter holiday season because of these generous donors and volunteers.
The Holiday Heroes campaign is made possible by donors, corporate partners and volunteers who believe every young person deserves to feel supported during the holidays. Thank you for helping bring joy and unforgettable experiences to youth and families across Oregon.
