Oregon hosts first Growing Stronger Breakfast raises funds for LifeSet
Youth Villages Oregon hosted their first Growing Stronger Breakfast sponsored by longtime partner, The Standard. Board member Charlie Swindell hosted the event at Multnomah Athletic Club with nearly 100 people in attendance.
The event raised $300,000, which will go toward providing critical support and educational stipends for Portland foster young adults who are in LifeSet.
During the event, Board Chair Ann Mestrovich presented Byron and Cynthia Grant with the Ritz Family Award, named after Pat and Trudy Ritz, to honor their longstanding commitment to children and young people in Oregon.
Byron and Cynthia Grant have long demonstrated a commitment to improving the lives of youth and children.
“The Grants were an early lead donor to our LifeSet expansion efforts allowing us to expand our reach and impact to this population.”
The Sisters of the Holy Names were also honored for their historic influence and continued commitment to Youth Villages Oregon.
Attendees heard the story of LifeSet Scholar Natalie, a young person impacted by the foster care system, and how LifeSet is supporting her independence goals – including keeping her sister out of the foster care system.
When I first connected with Youth Villages services, my goals were to get my driver’s license, get into college, and find off-campus housing so I had a place for my sister and I to live.
Today, Natalie is on track to graduate from Portland State University and is currently living in her own apartment with her sister.
