Youth Villages receives grant from Evergreen Foundation
ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 10, 2018) – Youth Villages received a $30,000 grant from the Evergreen Foundation in Waynesville. The contribution will support Youth Villages’ YVLifeSet program, in Western North Carolina, which supports young people ages 17-22 who are leaving foster care.
“This grant from the Evergreen Foundation will help us provide our YVLifeSet participants a successful transition into adulthood,” said George Edmonds, assistant director of Youth Villages Western North Carolina region. “We tailor our support with the tools they so desperately need in order to be the best adults they can be, as well as make lifelong positive changes.”
In 2016, Youth Villages launched YVLifeSet to help youth make a successful transition to adulthood. The program has been proven to decrease instances of homelessness, incomplete education, a cycle of unemployment, early parenthood, health issues, substance abuse, and sometimes incarceration. YVLifeSet is committed to ensuring every young person in the state who ages out of foster care will have access to this outcome-based program by 2020. Since the program launched in the region a year ago, Youth Villages North Carolina has helped more than 25 former foster youth with the transition into adulthood.
